WebQuery began as a project to test what could be done using the new DataFlex WebApp Framework (WAF) but since then has rather assumed a life of its own. It is an attempt to bring the capabilities of Sture Andersens VDFQuery Windows ad-hoc reporting tool to web applications.
While the project is still in its development stage, most aspects of it are already implemented and working. Mike presented it at the Scanduc 2013 conference. We expect that it will become available as a beta-test release within the next month or so.
This presentation was predominantly performed on live data, with very little written down.
Here are some screenshots that demonstrate how easy it is to generate a report from your customer data using VDF Query.
You select a main table and are then able to select columns from that table and all the tables to which it relates. You can also add calculated columns as expressions.
You can add selection criteria (filters) on any of the available columns and also a selection expression.
You can output to a window within the application (modal popup) a new browser tab, or a new browser window.
Customise the output of your report by choosing the text colour, background colour and highlight colour.
Run your report...
Queries can be saved as public or if you are logged in, as private to that user.
