DataFlex Getting Started in the Cloud – Step by Step

In this presentation, Mike’s aim is to navigate you through the process of setting up a Cloud server as quickly and easily as possible on which to put DataFlex 2014.
Create an Amazon Web Services (AWS) Account
1. Google AWS.
2. Click amazon.com – Try the AWS Cloud Free.
3. Click the Get Started Today button.
4. Put in a NEW e-mail address.
5. Enter a Name.
6. Confirm your e-mail.
7. Choose Submit.
8. Click Sign up for AWS.
9. Fill in details (including the security image).
10. Check agreement.
11. Create Account and Continue.
12. Enter credit/debit card details.
13. Click Continue.
14. Get phone call – key in (or say) the 4-digit number shown in your browser.
15. Click Continue to select your Support Plan.
16. Select Basic.
Launch an Instance and install DataFlex 2014
1. Do one of the following:
– if you are already within AWS, click Launch Management Console
– Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/
2. Log in.
3. Select EC2.
4. Click Launch Instance.
5. Select Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server Express and IIS (Free Tier).
6. Click Review and Launch.
7. Click Launch.
8. Create new key pair.
9. Name: Scanduc (in this example).
10. Launch Instance.
11. Click View Instances.
12. Copy public IP address.
13. Add DNS “A” Record in FastHosts for “scanduc”, pasting in IP address.
14. Rename instance: “Scanduc”.
15. Click Connect.
16. Download Remote Desktop File (renaming to something recognisable).
17. Get Password.
18. Copy to elsewhere.
19. Click Close.
20. Click on the downloaded .rdp file.
21. Enter password.
22. Wait while desktop is prepared.
23. Run Internet Explorer (waiting… good ole’ IE!).
24. Connect to ftp://ftp.dataaccess.com.
25. Navigate to /pub/products/dataflex/Software.
26. Download DataFlex2014-18.0.20.10.Studio.exe.
27. After download, run file.
28. Run WebAppCheck.
29. Fails on 32-bit Applications.
30. Run Server Manager.
31. Roles -> Web Server -> Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager -> (instance) -> App Pools -> Default -> Advanced Settings -> Enable 32-bit Applications: True.
32. Rerun WebAppCheck.
33. Continue with install – install as Evaluation.
34. Check in IIS that WebOrder_18 is there.
35. Connect to {IP}/WebOrder_18/Index.html from browser.
36. If you are lucky, connect to scanduc.unicorninterglobal.eu/WebOrder_18/Index.html.
