Visual DataFlex 10 Out Soon
We at Unicorn have firmly believed for many years that Web Services is the way forward and so we are delighted that the next release of Visual DataFlex, Version 10, will be incorporating Web Services’ technology. We know we are on to a winner when we hear programmers, who are involved in the Alpha Testing, extolling its virtues with comments such as:
“Elegant, and easy to create or use web services”
“..if you know web services in .NET, you can do it in VDF, it is as easy, or easier in VDF.”
“For creating simple web services you do not need to know anything about WSDL and such but as things get more complex, you will require a further understanding of parsing XML, WSDL, structs etc.”
We’re fairly certain that in the future all systems will be glued together using this technology, the release of VDF Version 10 will give us a head start.
We’ll keep you posted on the release date.
Crystal Reports 10 for DataFlex
The release of Crystal Reports 10 for DataFlex will be announced shortly and among the more significant enhancements in the new version 10 are
- a greater end-user interactivity and tighter integration with Microsoft Office
- it provides broader application integration options with a new Java report engine and advanced server controls for Visual Studio.NET developers
- it increases the performance and scalability of the industry’s leading web-native reporting.
Not so good is that we have learned that on 1st April 2004 the prices of Crystal Reports are to be increased by between 10-15%. This will mean that there is likely to be an increase in the cost of Crystal for DataFlex. We will let you know as soon as we have confirmation of this from Data Access.
