Mertech releases BTR2SQL v3.0 for MS SQL Server

A new version of the tool which allows simple migration from Btrieve/Pervasive to Microsoft SQL Server has been released. Mertech say that this latest release of BTR2SQL, a high performance ISDBC driver for MS SQL, contains significant improvements over the previous version. Their intention was to support the complete Btrieve/Pervasive transactional API and to improve performance. This new version includes new validation tools, MS SQL Server 2005 support and much more. For more information and to download this latest version visit Mertech.

Dynamic AI – affordable Business Intelligence for SMEs

Until now, few SMEs have invested in Business Intelligence either because the costs have been prohibitive or they lack the skills and find BI tools too difficult to implement. Yet business analysts agree that, in order to survive and thrive in today’s fiercely competitive marketplace, businesses will need to become more efficient and learn to adapt and respond quickly and effectively to increasing commercial and regulatory pressures.

Dynamic AI August 2006

Dynamic AI is a low cost BI tool that has been proven to bring about greater efficiency and cost savings. Easy to deploy it enables decision makers to analyse information held in multiple databases across system boundaries and build meaningful reports in real-time. But this is more than just a reporting tool and if you would like to find out more about Dynamic AI please call us on Tel +44 (0)118 988 8709.

Could you use Web Services?

Unicorn pioneered the use of web services in DataFlex several years ago, starting in VDF 8.1, and since VDF 11.0 a fully standards-compliant, and easy to use, web services capability has been built into the product, so we tend to think of their use as being fairly routine – we’ve even got VDF 7.3 implementations running at some customers.

We have noticed however that many of our development customers are still unaware of what this increasingly pervasive technology can do for them. It is the under-pinnings of such current buzz-words as “SOA” (Service Oriented Architecture) and “ESB” (Enterprise Service Bus), but there are many ways in which web services can be useful without going down such life-changing routes. If your business needs to synchronise data between different sites, or if you need to have your applications interact dynamically with other software, or it you need to expose legacy data (think DataFlex 2.3, or even older!) to new applications written in other languages, web services may hold the answer. If you’d like to find out more, please call us on +44 (0)118 988 8709.
