Visual DataFlex Personal
In our last newsletter we promised to bring you more information about a no-cost version of Visual DataFlex for personal use only and we are delighted to be able to confirm that this is now available.
Visual DataFlex Personal is designed to help developers get acquainted with the VDF software product without being required to make a financial commitment. It is available to anyone interested in learning how to build Windows and Web database applications. Visual DataFlex Personal includes a 3-user Client Engine, Connectivity Kits for MS-SQL, DB2, Pervasive SQL and ODBC and a Personal Web Application Server.
This FREE, fast & easy development tool is only available for non-commercial use.
The Personal Edition of VDF is not an evaluation copy and will not expire after 30 days provided you register your licence. It is strictly limited to personal, non-commercial and not-for-profit use, but if you later decide to sell your application written in VDF, you can simply upgrade to the full version of the software and purchase a runtime licence for your client.
Here’s what one user has to say: ’Development time is far less than a .Net app takes and VDF creates a more stable and faster system. The simplicity of creating Windows and Web Apps working off the same data makes it even better and Data Dictionaries are a tool that will really open your eyes.’
Pervasive PSQL.9 Vista Support
Pervasive Software has announced compatibility and support for Windows Vista for Pervasive PSQL v9 Server and Workgroup editions. They suggest that with the many changes introduced in Windows Vista, developers and end users should evaluate their migration and adoption choices. For full details there is a White Paper available with suggested solutions and configuration options. Please note that prior versions will not be supported. PSQL v10 is currently scheduled for the second half of 2007 and will incorporate full Windows Vista support and compatibility.
Diary Date
The next Visual DataFlex Special Interest Group (VDF SIG) is to be held a little earlier this Spring on Saturday, 10th March. The agenda still has to be finalised but is likely to focus on Web application development and where VDF is taking us with a development framework that can deliver “rich, visually exciting, browser based business solutions”.
