Web Application Server – New Lower Price
Data Access has announced a new licensing policy that substantially reduces the cost of Web Application Server where dual core technology is present. Many commercial software packages are licensed based on the number of processors it detects. With dual core technology the software detects both cores within the single physical processor and counts them as 2 CPU. Where there is a multiple dual core machine this can more than double the cost of the licence.
Now Data Access can provide a code that will enable a 2 CPU dual core machine to be licensed as 1-2 CPU and not 4-8 CPUs. Not only will new users benefit from this change with immediate effect but existing licence holders can upgrade their machines without incurring additional cost (you will need to contact us for a special code) and licence subscription renewal costs will be significantly lower.
FREE Software
Visual DataFlex Structure Viewer 12.0
For developers who need to maintain an up-to-date graphical representation of their data model in Visual DataFlex 12 there is now an updated Visual DataFlex Structure Viewer. You will need a VDF12.0 Developer or Client Licence to run the program, but the tool can scan older versions of DataFlex as well as all registered Visual DataFlex 12.0 workspaces. VDF Structure Viewer is free software, developed by Hans van de laar, a young Dutch software professional working at Micros B.V.
Changes between the VDF 11.1 version and this latest one are:
- Workspace selector replaced by open file dialog with “.SWS/*.WS” filters
- Verify if used Activex controls are installed or not
- New setup routine based on Installer2Go

RoloFLEX – A Contact Manager
Peter Donovan has developed, and made available as freeware, a VDF 12 Contact Manager called RoloFLEX. Peter has been developing custom applications for 23 years and this useful product can be downloaded from here. VDF 12 must be installed first and don’t forget, Visual DataFlex Personal is FREE for non-commercial purposes only so, if you haven’t downloaded your own Personal copy yet go to Visual DataFlex Personal.

Scanduc 2007
The 5th Scandinavian User Conference 2007 will be held at the Radisson SAS Hotel in the medieval town of Fredrikstad, Norway, (close to the Swedish border) on 1st and 2nd November. There will also be an opportunity for training in VDF and Ajax on 31st October. This event, held in the English Language, will attract developers from around the world and it is an excellent opportunity to meet with some of the most experienced in the business. We shall bring you more information as soon as the schedule is announced and costs have been published.
EDUC 2008
The next European DataFlex User Conference will be held in Moscow next May. This is an opportunity for you to meet, learn and share knowledge and experiences with some of the most experienced and influential DataFlex developers in Europe. In addition you will be able to take excursions to see the Kremlin and Red Square or the Space Mission Control Centre. We recommend you register early and don’t forget you will require a visa. So why not make a note in your diary to join us in Russia next Spring.
