Data Access Worldwide has released Visual Report Writer 3.0, the latest version of their report writing tool.
It’s worth remembering that in addition to working with the DataFlex embedded database, Visual Report Writer works with a wide variety of data sources including Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, Oracle, MySQL, Actian SQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft Access and more.
What are the benefits of using Visual Report Writer 3.0?
Whether you are an end user or a developer, Visual Report Writer 3.0 is designed to help you complete tasks more quickly and efficiently. Here are some examples of the ways in which Visual Report Writer can help you:
- Modifying underlying data in a report directly from that report.
When browsing reports, end users often identify information that needs modifying. Visual Report Writer 3.0 allows users to edit report information directly from a report using the Interactive Previewer, rather than having to find and edit the information in a different screen. For example, using this feature, an end user can click on a report field, e.g., a customer number, that opens a View to change that customer’s incorrect details, e.g., a phone number or contact name. - Improved integration of reports with the web framework in VDF 17.1 (see examples of Visual Report Writer reports used in the new web framework, at:
http://demo.dataaccess.eu/livevisualreportwriter) - Deliver “pixel-perfect” reports in a browser, with no HTML or CSS knowledge with the Web Framework Previewer.
How? When you’ve created your report, use the new Integration Wizard to capture the design and generate the dialog that will launch that report in a web application. The great thing here is that development as you are used to doing it in Windows will exactly match the reporting development you are going to do for the web. - Deliver reports in PDF or HTML format and optionally Export to Excel.
