It’s been a while since the UK DataFlex community has gathered together to talk ’all things DataFlex’, so to get things going, join us at the UK DataFlex Meetup on Tuesday 30th October 2018.
Who should attend?
Anyone who has an interest in DataFlex software! It’s aimed at everyone in the DataFlex community, not just developers. Yes, there will be technical content (Mike’s first language!), but there will also be the opportunity to get to know each other, find out who’s doing what and hopefully who’s successfully implemented functionality and overcome issues that are of interest to others.
Why have a UK DataFlex event now?
We know it can be difficult both in terms of time and finances to attend the EDUC and Scanduc events that are organised by Data Access. Yet the benefit for UK DataFlexers who attended the EDUC 2018 in Edinburgh was clear.
Yes, it is short notice. We’ve left it longer than we would have liked, since EDUC in May, but really wanted to get a UK event in before Scanduc 2018.
Hopefully, this will be the first of a regular schedule of UK events, depending on the level of interest. We (Unicorn) are happy to facilitate and organise events, and will aim to keep costs as low as possible.
Venue
We have chosen the Bromsgrove Hotel for it’s central location. The price for the day, including refreshments and lunch is a budget friendly £35 inclusive of VAT.

10:30 – 11:15 DataFlex and DonorFlex by Peter Bragg from Care Data Systems
In this presentation, Peter Bragg will touch on the history of how his company started using DataFlex and move on to what they are doing with DataFlex and DonorFlex right now, and their plans for the future (regarding DataFlex).
11:15 – 11:30 Morning Break
11:30 – 12:15 RESTful APIs (Part 1) by Mike Peat from Unicorn InterGlobal
RESTful APIs are a hot topic these days and everybody needs to have one. While it has been possible to create these in earlier versions of DataFlex, the new cHttpRequestHandler class in DataFlex 19.1 makes doing this much simpler. On top of this, Mike has built a library of classes which make building such an API quick and easy. Mike will show you how a basic API can be developed using these in just a few minutes. This presentation has been split into Part 1 and Part 2 (after lunch).

14:30 – 15:30 DataFlex, what else? by Nick Nikijuluw
DataFlex Studio offers all you need to develop powerful applications. In this session, Nick wants to interact with the audience to find out what the needs of programmers are, outside of the current DataFlex toolbox. What do programmers want or need? What is the R&D team working on, researching or contemplating? Here we could list so many topics at this time, but that would spoil all the fun. Come to the UK DataFlex Group event, and find out for yourself!

A session to discuss future events – locations, presentation content, guest speakers, where to record info (e.g., dataflex.wiki, Data Access Forums) etc.
