The Synergy 2019 DataFlex Ship has sailed

  • by

The Synergy 2019 conference was a first for everyone – a DataFlex conference aboard a luxury cruise ship!

Once everyone had settled into their Bermuda shorts and had a few Pina Coladas, there were plenty of presentations to see. The presentations are available to everyone from the Data Access Worldwide Presentation Library.

Mike delivered a presentation and training for Building RESTFul APIs in DataFlex 19.

If you don’t have time to watch all of the recorded presentations, we’ve highlighted some of Mike’s favourites from this year’s Synergy conference below:

DataFlex NextGen

Presenter: Harm Wibier, Data Access Europe BV

The next generation DataFlex is in the making, and includes support for 64-bit and Unicode. Harm detailed what will change, and how changes will affect DataFlex developers, explaining clearly what the project entails, and what you can expect.

The New HTTP Handler

Presenter: Harm Wibier, Data Access Europe BV

This new feature of the Web Application Server allows you to expose flexible API’s into your applications. It is the basis for REST services and helps us move away from classic ASP. Again, another master class from Harm, covering how it works and how you can use it!

DataFlex… What Else?

Presenter: Nick Nikijuluw, Data Access Europe BV

This audience-interactive session is great fun and enables Data Access to find out the needs of DataFlex programmers outside of the current Studio’s toolbox. It’s always interesting to find out what could be coming down the pipeline and what other developers have on their wishlist.

Talk With the Experts

Both developers and Data Access Worldwide benefit from open dialog about the key products and environments that make up the software domain. This session provided  topic-focused exchanges between Data Access and developers, split into 60-minute, interactive sessions. Data Access Worldwide product experts answered questions, shared knowledge and gathered feedback across three topic areas:

  • DataFlex Studio – John van Houten
  • NexGen Q&A – Harm Wibier & Stephen Meeley
  • DataFlex Reports – Vincent Oorsprong

DataFlex Reports in the Real World

Presenter: Marco Kuipers, 28IT

The DataFlex Reports visual report designer and its wizards are getting better and better. In this presentation Marco demonstrated how to use this tool effectively in order to create affordable and great looking reports. If you are using DataFlex Reports in any capacity, it will be worth watching the recorded presentation when it becomes available.

Marco has made a DataFlex Reports 7.0 cheat sheet available for those who are using DataFlex Reports in earnest! See Marco’s DataFlex Reports cheat sheet post on the Data Access forums

MySQL and More for DataFlex – 14:45

Presenters: Marcia Booth & Chip Casanave, Data Access Worldwide

A 2018 Stack Overflow survey reported that MySQL and the compatible MariaDB and AWS Aurora, accounted for an amazing 77% of the database market. With this level of popularity and to offer developers more economical, high-performance database alternatives, MySQL is now on the list of SQL servers supported in DataFlex 2019/19.1. This presentation’s first segment introduces MySQL and compatibles and their cloud options. The second segment includes a MySQL demonstration using familiar DataFlex sample applications, describes testing methodologies and performance test results including a Microsoft SQL comparison and concludes with recommendations, tips and advice for using MySQL successfully with DataFlex web and Windows applications.
